In February 2020, Ashlie Dean began her 18-month apprenticeship with UK IT Networks in the Provisioning Department. When a position opened in the Accounts team, we offered Ashlie the opportunity to move because of the skills and quick learning she had demonstrated. Ashlie now works as an Accounts Assistant and is completing her Level 3 Business Administration Assistant apprenticeship. Ashlie’s main duties include raising invoices and credit notes as well as dealing with new services for customers and ensuring they are billed correctly.
Before beginning her apprenticeship, Ashlie knew she did not want to go to university but instead wanted to gain as much experience as possible before settling into a role. “It was important for me to find somewhere I felt comfortable and could learn on the job – UK IT Networks was the place.”
“I applied for the apprenticeship through the government website and was invited for an interview soon after” Ashlie completes all her training in house and has regular check-ins with an external training advisor. In addition to this, Ashlie receives telecoms product training along with Excel and accounts training from her team and line manager. Ashlie has acquired extensive knowledge of the billing platforms we use; “this wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support and training from UK IT Networks.”
As well as her training, Ashlie has taken on responsibility for running the staff room tuck shop – an initiative that helps to raise money for our chosen company charity, Chance. Chance is a local charity focused on homelessness with volunteers offering a Saturday soup kitchen and a Community Pantry. On top of her responsibilities in work, Ashlie organises stock and collects money for the stand. “I value the opportunity to give back to the community and being able to do it through my employer is important.”
Ashlie’s professional and personal development has not stopped since entering this apprenticeship. “My mindset has changed in my approach to the future – I can see myself on a clear career path.” Ashlie has enjoyed the first 12 months of her apprenticeship and has decided to begin professional qualifications in Accountancy once her Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship is complete.
“I can’t recommend UK IT Networks enough! I have been allowed to try new things and find my feet in a new field. I had always thought about working in finances before this apprenticeship, but I never thought I was capable. Now, with the training I have received, I am capable, and look forward to progressing out of my apprenticeship and into professional accounting qualifications.”
